Op deze plaats stond in de Middeleeuwen de \u201cMeynaertsteen\u201d, dat wil zeggen het stenen huis van de Meynaerts.<\/p>\n<p>Gebouwd op een zandheuvel, diende het als verdedigingswerk voor het eilandje St. G\u00e9ry, dat tijdens de bouw van de eerste stadsmuur niet meer werd gebruikt, en werd in stukken gehakt.<\/p>\n<p>In 1441 werd het onteigend door de stad, die het samen met de aangrenzende huizen herstelde en ze samenbracht in dezelfde constructie. Na het bombardement van 1695 werd het het jaar daarop herbouwd door architect G. Debruyn en werd deze groep van 7 huizen onder hetzelfde fronton verenigd.
